The BRITISH SOLDIER.
Encyclopedie voor modelbouwer met foto's en schetsen.
The British Army (XXIst Army Group) that landed at Normandy was one of the most colorful and diverse ever assembled. Not only were such famous units as the Guards Armored Division, 51st Highland Division, commandos and paratroopers present, but the British also had under command large numbers of Canadian and Polish troops, as well as other national contingents. Each unit had its own distinct insignia or modification to standard British battle dress and equipment.
British armor was also at its most fascinating stage of development. The campaign not only featured many famous units in standard battle tanks, but many early-war tanks, Churchills and American-built Shermans had been modified into self-propelled guns, flame-throwers, mine-clearers, bridge-layers, anti-aircraft platforms, heavy gun towers, and amphibians in a display of ingenuity without equal in the war.
The latest Histoire & Collections book depicts the British Army from Normandy to VE Day in unprecedented detail. Continental archives have been combed to find rare contemporary photographs as well as surviving weapons and equipment that are shown being worn by authentic-looking models and re-enactors in realistic settings. All aspects of this colorful army are covered in detail, from organizational charts down to individual equipment, insignia and decorations.
