Current radar is Raytheon AN/APG-63(V)1, a limited number of USAF aircraft have AN/APG-63(V)2 Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar. Latest armament include AIM-120C and AIM-9X missiles. The latter can be used in conjunction with JHMCS, which allows AIM-9X missiles to be launched high off-boresight. In March 2008 Boeing was awarded a contract to upgrade 16 USAF and ANG F-15C Eagles with the APG-63(V)3 ASEA radar. Previously, seven shipsets were contracted. Raytheon's APG-63(V)3 ASEA radar builds upon APG-63(V)2 technology and the hardware advances of the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet's AN/APG-79 AESA radar. The GF-15D is a permanently grounded version of the F-15D for ground instructional training.
The Boeing (McDonnell Douglas) F-15E Strike Eagle is a two seat ground attack variant with strengthened airframe for increased weights, improved AN/APG-70 radar with ground-mapping modes and provisions for air-to-ground weapons, including AGM-65D IIR Maverick, Paveway series LGB (eg. GBU-10/B, GBU-12/B, GBU-16/B), GBU-15 glide-bomb, Joint Direct Attack Munition series GPS Guided Bombs (GBU-31/B JDAM, GBU-32/B JDAM, GBU-38/B JDAM, GBU-54/B JDAM), GBU-28/B Bunker Buster, AGM-154 JSOW, GBU-39/B Small Diameter Bomb, MK-20 Rockeye, CBU-89 Gator and B57/B61nuclear weapons. Fitted with the AN/AAQ-13 navigation and AN/AAQ-14 targeting pods. In 2009, Raytheon announced the AN/APG-82(V)1 ASEA radar, which will optimize the F-15E’s multirole mission capability. In addition to its extended range and improved multi-target track and precision engagement capabilities, the AN/APG-82(V)1 offers a more than twentyfold improvement in system reliability over the legacy F-15E AN/APG-70 radar. Aircraft equipped with the AN/APG-82(V1) ASEA radar can simultaneously detect, identify and track multiple air and surface targets at longer ranges than ever before. The F-15E can be equipped with the Northrop Grumman AN/ASQ-236 Radar Pod contains synthetic aperture radar that provides detailed maps for surveillance, coordinate generation and bomb impact assessment purposes.
