Description

The RF-4C was developed as a tactical recon plane for the United States Air Force, with the first production aircraft flying in May 1964. The engine and landing gear were identical to the stock F-4C, althoug with wider, low pressure tires. Another differing feature was the mid-air-refueling arm on the upper front fuselage. Although not equipped with FCS (Fire Control System) gear, the RF-4C was capable of bomb loadout -- including nuclear weapons -- on the centerline pylon, a feature it did not share with its Navy recon Phantom cousin, the RF-4B. In December 1968 of the aircraft were ordered fitted with ECM posd and AN/ARN-92 LORAN-D to serve in a Pathfinder function for bombing missions. About 500 RF-4C`s were built in total, with the last airraft rolling off the production iline in December 1973.
