Description

The Harrier takes among the fighters play a special role. It can take off and land vertically and reach a top speed close to the sound barrier. He is designed both as a fighter and for ground-support. Already in 1982, had the Harrier in an emergency its capabilities demonstrated in the Falklands War in 1982, he was war-resolving weapon system. The cooperation of British Aerospace and McDonnell Douglas led to joint developments and ultimately to the AV-8B Harrier II Night Attack. He is to the amended claims of the military well prepared, especially for the Royal Air Force, which had to re act globally. The new series Harrier Mk.7 was created by converting the existing Harrier Mk.5. Part of the new machine was in this work the stronger Mk.107 Pegasus engine with 11,067 kp thrust. Currently 70 machines from the series Mk.7 for a conversion to the Mk.9 are provided, which does not differ externally. The avionics and weapons electronics was completely changed and in the bow, a new APG-65 radar installed. These modifications allow the Harrier now employing the latest SMART TV weapons like Paveway bombs. The new Harrier GR Mk.9 are then shared in a "Joint Force Harrier" used in the future by both Fleet Air Arm pilot and Royal Air Force pilots on land and at sea.
