Description

Designed for hunting submarines the carrier-based Fairey Gannet undertook its maiden flight in 1949. It was the first aircraft in the world to be fitted with a coupled double- turbine and contra-rotating propellers. It was also the first turboprop aircraft that could land on an aircraft carrier and the first aircraft in the UK Fleet Air Arm capable of conducting both combat and search missions. The pilot training version the T.5 first flew in 1957. The Gannet remained in service until 1972. The Gannet T.5 carrying the designation XT752 was restored to flying condition in the United States and from 2013 onwards will be actively taking part in large Air Shows.
