Orange Box from Dragon is well known for offering high-quality model kits at a budget price. Usually each Orange Box combo includes a 1/35 scale kit and an accompanying set of figures, but Dragon has innovated yet again by offering a two-vehicle set, the first ever! The latest Orange Box offering features a Typ Ssy railcar with a Panzerbefehlswagen Ausf.K.
This particular tank was designed to serve as a command vehicle but with retention of the main armament. In the case of the Pz.Bef.Wg.III Ausf.K, the main weapon was a 5cm KwK39 L/60 cannon. A total of 50 of these command tanks were produced between December 1942 and February 1943. It was based on a standard Panzer III M chassis, and a star antenna was used instead of the previously favored frame antenna. The easiest way of transporting heavy armored vehicles to, from and around the battlefield was via rail. During WWII, the German rail system performed a vital task in moving vehicles, equipment and personnel, and at the end of 1942 the Deutsche Reichsbahn boasted more than 200,000 rail wagons. This twin-vehicle set from Orange Box allows modelers to create a typical rail scene, with a heavy railcar transporting the Pz.Bef.Wg.III tank. The 1/35 scale tank has also received something of a makeover with the addition of Magic Tracks to add more detailand convenience. Of course, one of the strengths of this set remains its attractive price.
