Description

Ford T Modell 1912

Production of the legendary Ford Model T began in 1908. Henry Ford, the founder of the firm, had envisaged mass production of the car right from the outset. The Ford Model T, as the first car in the world to be built on a moving production line, revolutionised industrial production and came to be synonymous with mass production. The Tin Lizzie , as the Ford T was nicknamed by the populace, enjoyed unimagined popularity, as it had something to offer, despite its Spartan method of construction. It had a 2.9 litre, inline four-cylinder engine and an output of 20 hp. It was deliberately designed in terms of simple operation and ease of repair. The construction was really robust, but also fairly simple, so that repairs could be carried out quickly and cheaply. The top speed of this low-maintenance Model T was 72 km/h. To save costs, the Model T was only made in black from 1914 through 1925. By 26th May 1927, when the last Ford T rolled of the line, 15 million in various versions had been built - an absolute record it held until 1972.
