Description

                      Citroën 15 CV

The 15-6 came out in mid-1938. Based on the 11 CV Traction, this touring car was equipped with a 6-cylinder engine: 2.9l with 77hp that produced a top speed of approximately 81mph. From an external point of view, it differed from the 11 CV by its bigger fender, a 15-6 logo on the grille and a hood with small vent holes instead of flaps. This last difference would no longer be included after the war, when all the Tractions would have the 15-6’s hood. No more than 2,500 Citroën 15-6 would be produced before the war.

The production would restart only in 1946. The 15-6 became the 15-6D in 1947 with a few minor mechanical evolutions. As on the 11 CV, the trunk would appear only in 1953 on the 15-6, and black would be the sole color available, until 1954. The 15-6H came out in May 1954. The engine was still the same but the rear wheels had an unusual hydro-pneumatic suspension. The latter was tested on an experimental basis (about 3,000 models sold) in order to streamline it on the four-wheel cars for the future DS, which would be introduced at the end of 1955. when it was launched, the sedan 15-6H was priced at 940,000 francs down to 870,000 for the sedan 15-6D

The Citroën 15 CV would disappear as soon as the DS came out, that is shortly before the 11 CV. Only 50,000 cars, all versions considered, would were produced.
