Seenotkreuzer Search & Rescue Vessel HERMANN MARWEDE

"Hermann Marwede" is one of the most modern ships of this type in the world. It is the largest Ocean-going rescue ship ever to enter service in Germany.

The ship was named in the Summer of 2003 and is stationed on the North Sea Island of Helgoland. It has a maximum speed of 25 knots (46.3 km/h; 28.75 mph) and a maximum range of 3926 km (2438 st. miles). Propulsion is provided by three engines with a total power output of 9250 Bhp. The ship has its own small hospital, a crane, an inflatable boat, fire fighting appliances and a Helicopter Landing Platform on-board. The on-board inshore craft can achieve a speed of 18 knots (21 mph) and also operate in shallow waters. Since its formation in 1865, members of the DGzRS (German Lifeboat Institution) have saved over 76000 people from life-threatening situations.
