The C-141 Starlifter has always been a popular item since the early days of Dragon. However, the kit has been absent from the market for more than a decade, and model-makers frequently request that the C-141 “re-enter service”! Even after the passage of time, this 1/200 scale model still demonstrates Dragon’s trademark high-quality molding. Modelers will be thrilled to hear that Dragon is at last reintroducing the C-141B! The Starlifter was a strategic transport aircraft that served in the US Air Force (USAF) for around 40 years. Delivery of 284 aircraft commenced in 1965, and it wasn’t till 2006 that the final C-141 was retired in favor of its successor the C-17 Globemaster III. Modifications were carried out on the entire C-141 fleet from 1977-82 to provide greater internal volume. The aircraft fuselages were stretched by some 7.11m and a boom receptacle for in-flight refueling was installed.
The C-141B contributed greatly to coalition operations in the Gulf War (2 August 1990 to 28 February 1991) after Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi forces invaded Kuwait. As the USA built up its forces in Saudi Arabia, C-141B Starlifters helped transfer vital materiel and troops to the theater in preparation for the decisive Operation Desert Storm. Thanks to a brand new set of decals produced by Cartograf, the newly released 1/200 scale plastic kit gains a new lease of life as an aircraft conducting missions during the 1990-91 Gulf War. It’s true that the C-141 may have been retired from the USAF, but it’s now flying again with Dragon!
