C-47 SKYTRAIN "BERLIN AIRLIFT"
The C-47 Skytrain is without doubt one of the most legendary planes in history. As a further development of the DC-2, 1935, the DC-3 and later the C-47 was built as a cargo airplane. Almost all air forces in the Western world, at any time one or more C-47 had in its portfolio and today over 1,000 copies worldwide fly. When in June 1948 the land routes to Berlin were blocked by the USSR, it was the C-47, on the 21st June 1948 brought the first supplies into the blockaded former German capital. The C-47 Dakota of the Royal Air Force flew in regular use between Wunstorf near Hanover and Berlin Gatow. In this daily up to 60 tons of food and other essential supplies were flown into Berlin. On 26 June 1948 began the American Air Force with 32 Skytrain from Wiesbaden their supply flights to Berlin-Tempelhof. On 12 May 1949 ended the blockade, the last flight took care, however, on 20 September 1949 instead.
The model of the C-47 has a detailed cockpit with seats and instrument panel as well as via a continuous cargo floor. Separate the cargo door can be selectively opened or closed installed. The detailed chassis is provided with movable wheels.
